Santa Claus Rally in Market History

This analysis determines the historical performance of market indices during the so-called Santa Claus rally. Santa Claus Rally refers to market performance during the last five (5) trading days of December and the first two (2) trading days of January.
  1. Select a market index.
  2. Enter the start year.
  3. Enter the end year.
  4. Run the analysis. For each year in the selected range, the period analyzed covers the last five (5) trading days of December and the first two (2) trading days of January of the following calendar year. Therefore, for each year in the range, seven (7) consecutive trading sessions are examined (5 in December and 2 in January). The chart will show market index performance during the Santa Claus rally period for all the years selected.

Percent (%) returns of the S&P 500 index during the so-called "Santa Claus Rally" from 2015 to 2024. Santa Claus Rally refers to the last five trading days of December and the first two trading days of January. Dividends are not included in this analysis.
