How to use this analysisHide instructions
This analysis shows historical market index performance (close values or percentage returns) during a specified period of time. Market index performance may be viewed sequentially by day, week, month, quarter, year, or decade within specified date boundaries. Average percentage returns for market index performance may also be examined for months (January through December), quarters (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4), and weekdays (Monday through Friday).
  1. Select a market index.
  2. Select the analysis type: Averages, Sequential - Close Values, or Sequential - % Returns. This selection determines the options available for the time window.
  3. Select the time window: Options for obtaining data averages are Weekdays, Months, Quarters, and Half-Years. Options for obtaining sequential data are Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year, and Decade.
  4. Set the analysis start date.
  5. Set the analysis end date.
  6. Run the analysis. The chart will show percentage (%) returns of the selected market index based on the specified parameters.

Average percent (%) return of the S&P 500 index are shown for each month (January through December) within the analysis date boundaries (1/1/1995 to 12/31/2024). Dividends are not included in this analysis.
